We thought you could use some inspiration on how to spend your winter months waiting for it to warm up for the Foam Fest! The word extreme may not mean as much these days but we can guarantee you that you will have a blast even just watching these videos. These are just 4 winter extreme sports but we are sure we could add at least a dozen more!
#1- Snow Kayaking
Equipped with a paddle, craft and helmet, snow kayakers take to some of the steepest slopes in the world to see what it would be like if the whitewater rapids they traverse in the spring, summer and fall were frozen over and coated with several feet of snow. Interested in having a go? No special equipment is required and paddles are still used to steer, but beware: mixing waxed-up kayaks with snow and ice results in some seriously fast cruising. The potential for injury is high, so start off on hills to get your bearings before taking the plunge on rock-laden trails.
#2 Shovel Racing
Did you know that they used to have this in the winter X games. It made a television debut in 1997 but when there was a racer that suffered a broken sternum, bruised heart and a fractured pelvis they decided to not have it on the x games again. The hot bed for your shovel racing adventure can be found at Angel Fire Resort in New Mexico. Spandex is not required but if you have we recommend you use it!
#3 Speed Flying
Born in France this is one wicked way to do your skiing. Can you imagine looking for the cliffs because you know you could sail off of them!? This is in the same league as skydiving and BASE jumping and be careful because this is risky business. The sport is taking off in Switzerland and Austria with Italy and Germany catching up. So if you are near any mountains check out to see if you have a Speed Flying club nearby so that you can at least talk to the pros to see if its something that you want to try out. Otherwise you can find a score more of videos and live the extreme life through your screen and live to see another day.
#4 – Ice Cross Downhill
Crashed Ice (Red Bull Crashed Ice) is a world tour in the winter extreme sporting event, ice cross downhill (or downhill ice cross), which involves downhill skating in an urban environment, on a track which includes steep turns and high vertical drops. It is sponsored by Red Bull. It is similar to ski cross and snowboard cross, except with ice skates on an ice track, instead of skis or snowboards on a snow track. February is your month Minnesota so get ready!
