5k Foam Fest teams up with A Child’s Hope Foundation for 2014

We’re pumped to announce the charity that we are supporting with the proceeds from our 2014 season! While the CEO graciously offered to paid for everyone here at Round House to change their middle name to foam, we decided to leave it to our mantra to tell about who we are. Fun,Fitness and Philanthropy.

While a lot of time put into where our funds would be best used A Child’s Hope Foundation came to our attention

This is the new charity that the 5k Foam Fest is supporting this year

Along with being vigilant about the funds they receive, they have a great story to tell:

In 1997 Paul and Carolene adopted a beautiful girl from China and named her Megan. In 2001, the agency through which Megan was adopted came to the Cooks and asked them to donate to improve a poor orphanage in Haiti. The Cooks donated the money and thought little more about it.

A few months later, the agency returned and asked Paul if he would like to accompany the agency on a trip to Haiti so he could see what his donation meant in a personal sense.

Paul said, “It was only then, when I saw the desperate plight of orphans in Haiti, that I knew that I needed to do more than just donate money. I needed to personally get to work on this problem and help save the lives of these kids. We named our charity ‘A Child’s Hope Foundation’ because we believe it is every orphan’s hope to belong to a loving family.”

come visit A Child's Hope Foundation on Facebook

Come by their Facebook and see what they are all about!

We are pledging a portion of every race entry to go towards building a new orphanage. We hope that you will join us in supporting this stellar organization and exemplar cause!

What about the family gift this year?

So we know that you have put in your fare share of time and money to think about what each one of your kids might want. New gadgets, a bike, sports equipment, clothes, toys and you could have even done the whole enchilada and bought them their first set of wheels! But what do you get the whole family and not break the bank? What could you all do together even if you have a 10 year old and a 20 year old? What about moms looking to do something fun and exciting with their daughters but don’t want the pounding headache after a loud concert?

what kind of gift can you give your family that doesnt cost you a small fortune?

When New Years comes around are you going to make some fitness goals that you may or may not keep up with come February? What if you were to make a fitness goal that involved the whole family? There are not many things that can involved that whole family!

You could give your family a gift that would allow for everyone to train together !

Have you thought about signing up for an 5k obstacle race as a family? You could plan one 6 months in advance and then use that as a goal for the whole family! You can train individual or together and but when the day of comes around you can do it as a team. This would allow for you to spend time while training for and then have a celebration as a family once the goal is completed!

You can give your family the gift of foam this year!

Why not give your family a gift towards health and fitness this year? You could give you kids running shoes and slip their ticket in with it! This year you could give the gift of foam with the 5k foam fest.

4 Winter Extreme Sports to Check Out

We thought you could use some inspiration on how to spend your winter months waiting for it to warm up for the Foam Fest! The word extreme may not mean as much these days but we can guarantee you that you will have a blast even just watching these videos. These are just 4 winter extreme sports but we are sure we could add at least a dozen more!

#1- Snow Kayaking

Equipped with a paddle, craft and helmet, snow kayakers take to some of the steepest slopes in the world to see what it would be like if the whitewater rapids they traverse in the spring, summer and fall were frozen over and coated with several feet of snow. Interested in having a go? No special equipment is required and paddles are still used to steer, but beware: mixing waxed-up kayaks with snow and ice results in some seriously fast cruising. The potential for injury is high, so start off on hills to get your bearings before taking the plunge on rock-laden trails.

#2 Shovel Racing

Did you know that they used to have this in the winter X games. It made a television debut in 1997 but when there was a racer that suffered a broken sternum, bruised heart and a fractured pelvis they decided to not have it on the x games again. The hot bed for your shovel racing adventure can be found at Angel Fire Resort in New Mexico. Spandex is not required but if you have we recommend you use it!

#3 Speed Flying

Born in France this is one wicked way to do your skiing. Can you imagine looking for the cliffs because you know you could sail off of them!? This is in the same league as skydiving and BASE jumping and be careful because this is risky business. The sport is taking off in Switzerland and Austria  with Italy and Germany catching up. So if you are near any mountains check out to see if you have a Speed Flying club nearby so that you can at least talk to the pros to see if its something that you want to try out. Otherwise you can find a score more of videos and live the extreme life through your screen and live to see another day.

#4 – Ice Cross Downhill

Crashed Ice (Red Bull Crashed Ice) is a world tour in the winter extreme sporting event, ice cross downhill (or downhill ice cross), which involves downhill skating in an urban environment, on a track which includes steep turns and high vertical drops. It is sponsored by Red Bull. It is similar to ski cross and snowboard cross, except with ice skates on an ice track, instead of skis or snowboards on a snow track. February is your month Minnesota so get ready!

4 Ways Obstacle Runs Can Help Gyms

1. Goals

personal goals are important to gyms so they can help know what they are looking for

The axiom comes to mind that “goals are dreams with deadlines.” You are in the dream business. Every single member of your gym has come there with a goal in mind.Lose weight, build muscle, look better for someone they love, prolong their life, improve on their self image, do something meaningful with a friend and the list goes on. With your members having a specific goal like training for an obstacle race, this provides an invaluable opportunity for them to see you as a friend helping them get closer to their goals.

2. Unify members

We know you are a bonafide Einstein when when it comes to knowing that when people get in groups they are more likely to do something. Doing something is great for business and also great for building camaraderie among members. These types of events can also become gateway experiences that culminate someone moving from one physical fitness level to another. Avoidance is hard when you know that you are standing someone up. Get them training in groups with something like the Foam Fest. Everyone could use a reminder that “If you avoid difficult things, great things will avoid you.”

3. Generate a sincere interest in customer

We are avoiding cliches but this one is entirely applicable. “They don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Imagine that a complete stranger at work came up to you and started asking you about your goals. Suppose those goals were attached to insecurities that you have? Would you tell them everything you were thinking knowing that they were apathetic as to wanting to see you succeed?

Why would trainers that ask members their goals be any different? Their goal to do a Obstacle Run for example, gives you a chance to check in and talk about something that would excite them rather than bring a crushing feeling of being overwhelmed. Fun is definitely fitness’s best friend.

4. Ability to create personalized  training plans

Instead of plans that were made to be generic members need to have personal plans made for them

What if you looking on the tag of everything you owned at instead of “made in china” or other obscure countries it said “made for you”? When something was created with only us in mind it almost makes it feel a little bit like Houdini had a hand in it because it’s magic. The more details that scream us, the more likely that we will buy into it. Even if the price calls for discomfort like a grueling workout, or an absence of sleep. That plan becomes our graduation certificate just waiting to be signed. The goal of an obstacle run allows you the chance to craft this plan for your clients and watch their faces light up when the tag says “made for you”. Personal plans are like capes, it can make anyone feel like a super hero.
