New Obstacle for 2014: Monkey Business

monkey business yWe’re takin’ care of business, Monkey Style! Introducing the new obstacle for 2014: Monkey Business!

Monkey Business takes your childhood playground Monkey bars to a whole new level. It is a rectangular tower with meshed ropes to form ladders. Use these ropes to climb your way through to the other side. There’s even ropes on the top, so you can crawl across upside-down! Make sure you’ve been working out your arms, because you’ll need the strength to hold on tight.

Also, don’t forget to give out a little “oo-oo, ah-ah” as you make your way across.

The 6 People You’ll Meet at Foam Fest

road runnerThe Road Runner- Sometimes we wonder if he ever stops running anywhere. From 5k’s to marathons, he’s there. You may even catch him jogging in place in the registration line. He brings the competition and will probably be the first one done in his heat. He gets the self-claimed title of winner, because at Foam Fest everyone gets a medal.freddie frat

Freddie Frat- The college kid, the party guy. He likes the foam that’s in his beer a little more than the foam on the course. Like Ke$ha, the party doesn’t start till he runs in. You’ll catch him with all of his friends, shot gunning a Mike’s Hard at the finish line.

the new girl

The New Girl- She may not have run a 5K before, but the thought of foam and obstacles was too enticing. She’ll let you go first at the top of the Death Drop, because she didn’t think the world record tall slide was really going to be that tall. The thought of all the mud scares her, but by the end of it she’ll love the new dirty look.mud gang

The Mud Mob- Forget the day at the spa, these gals are getting their mud baths at the Foam Fest. They are taking the day off from glamour and getting dirty. They come as a team to help each other in the foamy situations. Plus, you don’t truly know your friends until they are covered in foam.

healthy housewife

The Healthy Homemaker- She’s the Momma bear of family. While trying to keep track of Thing 1 and Thing 2, she’s finding activities that don’t involve video games and junk food for the family. Finally she can let the kids make mud pies and even join in on the fun too.

The Helpless Husband- Fortunately, he was dragged to the race by his wife, the Healthy Homemaker, but it turns out he ends up having a blast! His kids look up to him like a hero as he holds their hand through the mud pools and down the Death Drop. The Foam Fest gets him outta his comfort zone and into the world of active, foamy fun.

Foamy Philanthropy

IMG_1275This was a letter received by Nicole just a few weeks after the LA Foam Fest. Anyone who has lost their license before knows that the chances of getting it back are slim to none, especially between obstacles of mud and foam!

At Foam Fest, we’re all about philanthropy! Every small act of kindness counts. Whether it be helping someone who lost something or just a smile to a stranger, we think being charitable is pretty great.

We love this story because it shows the genuine kindness in the Foamster community. So give someone a little help, or even just give them a smile and in the words of this anonymous letter sender, stay active!

New Obstacle for 2014: The Body Washer

Foam Fest is a mud run and you can count on getting a dirty, but were announcing an obstacle that will leave you a little cleaner! This is what happens when you mix The Foam Fest 5K and a car wash. We present: The Body Washer!

The Body Washer is a tunnel with three sections that simulate a car washing cycle. First, soap up by entering a room of pure foam. Then scrub down as you run through a maze of sponges as taller than you. Finally, your invited to rinse off at the mini pool party at the end. Bring your rubber ducky because getting cleaner hasn’t been this fun since your 5 year old self took a bubble bath! Scrubba-dub-dub.

Note: The Body Washer is not to be used to replace a real shower after the race. You will still have dirt between your toes, mud behind your ears, and we know your Mother raised you better than that.

1st of 6 NEW Obstacles for 2014- The Log Roll

We are bent on making everything bigger and better. Sometimes that requires us to do something completely new all together. Instead of thinking that our ideas were the best thing since indoor plumbing, we went to you, our fans, looking for new obstacle ideas. Here is one of the six new obstacles that we totally bought into.

Thank you Shelly Rollins for inspiring… the Log Roll

This baby will inspire a little more tree hugging from everyone. Once you get to the platform you’ll find yourself face to face with a 24’ foot long steel pipe wrapped in Styrofoam. Get your hug on cuz there is no other way across the pond beneath. Try walking across but we warned you to wear your water wings! While it is something that your average joe (no offense joe) can do, we can promise that it will be a challenge to even you endurance tree huggers!

Top 5 Reasons to Take a Barre Class before Running the 5k Foam Fest

Top 5 Reasons to Take a Barre Class before Running the 5k Foam Fest

Obstacle races are definitely a fun way to get out, have fun, and stay active. But preparing for them often leaves people stumped. How do you train for something that involves running, climbing over walls, and crawling through mud?

While there are many different training techniques and prep programs, here’s 5 reasons why we feel a barre class is a great way to prep for getting filthy clean:

1.     Barre workouts are high intensity and low impact. For those unfamiliar with barre workouts, they’re basically an hour long, full body workout combining exercises from ballet, pilates, sports conditioning, and stretching. This type of workout is perfect for someone looking to prevent injury while training for a 5k. The high intensity will help you build the stamina and strength needed to conquer obstacles throughout the course, without the risk of injury that other high impact workouts provide.

2.     They help with upper body strength. When you’re facing your first set of 8 foot walls on the course, you’ll want to make sure you have the strength and stamina to climb up and over. Most barre workouts incorporate some light weights to help with building and maintaining upper body strength. Not only will this help on the course, but it’s a great way to achieve those toned, sexy arms we all want!

3.     They help work out those inner thighs. At the Foam Fest you’ll be using your legs a lot! From running to leaping over those 5 foot walls, leg strength and endurance is a must. Most barre classes offer an “Inner Thigh Intensive” class that will get your thighs in mud run shape!

4.     They build core strength, flexibility, and endurance. Core strength and flexibility will both come in handy conquering some of the obstacles on the course. And with 3.1 miles of trail in front of you, endurance is a definite must!

5.     You’ll make friends with similar fitness goals. One of the first things we’ve learned about fitness in general is that it’s funner to do with friends! Whether you’re facing the 50 foot slip n’ slide or sweating it out in the gym to get rid of the baby weight, it’s super helpful to have someone at your side to give you motivation when you need an extra push.

So before your next Foam Fest, get out to a barre class and try it out. You’ll definitely get a workout, and you might also find some new friends as willing as you are to dive face first into foam!

Forklift

Forklift Certified!

That’s right! Here at Round House Racing even the Event Coordinators can now drive a forklift! Let me tell you, never in a million years did I imagine I would drive a forklift, not really my type of work genre…but I passed! I passed with flying colors, and so did everyone else! Why may you ask did we have to learn?

Why not!
