Monkey Business takes your childhood playground Monkey bars to a whole new level. It is a rectangular tower with meshed ropes to form ladders. Use these ropes to climb your way through to the other side. There’s even ropes on the top, so you can crawl across upside-down! Make sure you’ve been working out your arms, because you’ll need the strength to hold on tight.

The 6 People You’ll Meet at Foam Fest

  road runnerThe Road Runner- Sometimes we wonder if he ever stops running anywhere. From 5k’s to marathons, he’s there. You may even catch him jogging in place in the registration line. He brings the competition and will probably be the first one done in his heat. He gets the self-claimed title of winner, because at Foam Fest everyone gets a medal.freddie frat

Freddie Frat- The college kid, the party guy. He likes the foam that’s in his beer a little more than the foam on the course. Like Ke$ha, the party doesn’t start till he runs in. You’ll catch him with all of his friends, shot gunning a Mike’s Hard at the finish line.

The New Girl- She may not have run a 5K before, but the thought of foam and obstacles was too enticing. She’ll let you go first at the top of the Death Drop, because she didn’t think the world record tall slide was really going to be that tall. The thought of all the mud scares her, but by the end of it she’ll love the new dirty look.mud gang

The Mud Mob- Forget the day at the spa, these gals are getting their mud baths at the Foam Fest. They are taking the day off from glamour and getting dirty. They come as a team to help each other in the foamy situations. Plus, you don’t truly know your friends until they are covered in foam.

The Healthy Homemaker- She’s the Momma bear of family. While trying to keep track of Thing 1 and Thing 2, she’s finding activities that don’t involve video games and junk food for the family. Finally she can let the kids make mud pies and even join in on the fun too.

The Helpless Husband- Fortunately, he was dragged to the race by his wife, the Healthy Homemaker, but it turns out he ends up having a blast! His kids look up to him like a hero as he holds their hand through the mud pools and down the Death Drop. The Foam Fest gets him outta his comfort zone and into the world of active, foamy fun.

IMG_1275This was a letter received by Nicole just a few weeks after the LA Foam Fest. Anyone who has lost their license before knows that the chances of getting it back are slim to none, especially between obstacles of mud and foam!

At Foam Fest, we’re all about philanthropy! Every small act of kindness counts. Whether it be helping someone who lost something or just a smile to a stranger, we think being charitable is pretty great.

We love this story because it shows the genuine kindness in the Foamster community. So give someone a little help, or even just give them a smile and in the words of this anonymous letter sender, stay active!

5 Ways to Maximize Your Fun at the Foam Fest 5k!

We know what you’re thinking, how could the Foam Fest get any more fun? Well here are a few suggestions to make your awesome weekend, extremely awesome!

1)      Bring your friends- What’s more fun than slip n’ sliding your way through a foamy obstacle course? Doing it with your friends! Even if they don’t run the race, we have an all new festival area for your biggest fans. Plus, as you get down and dirty, you’ll want someone there to have dry clothes and take pictures for you.

2)      Make a weekend out of it- Did you know all of our venues have a host hotel you get a discount at through the 5k Foam Fest! If you’re coming from far away or just need to get out of the city for the weekend, grab some friends and stay at the hotel near the venue! Even better, you won’t have to clean your own shower after you wash off all the mud! 3)      Come in costume- Halloween doesn’t have to be the only day of the year you get to dress up. Foam Fest is all about the crazy costumes. Last year we had everything from a wedding couple, to loofas and super heroes! What will we see you in this year?

Advice: Practice running in your costume and know how the fabric feels when it gets wet. You won’t want to be stuck on race day in a costume that is just not working for you.

4)      Training- The 5K Foam Fest is for beginners and hard core runners alike, but it’s going to be a lot more fun if you start exercising before race day. Don’t get stuck in the mud (literally) on race day as you try to cross the treacherous mud pits or balance on the log roller. Get training and you are sure to do better on race day.

5)      Take before and after pictures- A picture is worth a thousand words but having fun is worth a million! We want to see how foamtastically dirty you get, so take pictures before and after and post them on Instagram with the hashtag “#5kfoamchallengeCITYNAME”! We’ll pick one winner from each location to get free Foam Fest gear! *The city name will change depending on the city your event is in. Stay tuned on race day to find out your specific hashtag!

How Running a 5K Can Actually Improve Your Career This Year

images It’s a New Year and after hearing this past years performance review, you might be more determined to do better than ever this year. It’s a little known secret that daily exercise can help make you more successful. In fact, in a 5 year study by Tom Corley says that wealthy people exercise 3 to 4 times a week. No, you probably won’t get a million dollar bonus or become Apple’s CEO just because you can run 3.1 miles, but the habit of running and exercise helps you become your best, which will help you get that raise or promotion.  The following are benefits that running a 5K can have on your career:

Stress Relief- Work can be stressful. Let’s rephrase that, work IS stressful. Unless you get paid to watch Netflix or play with kittens, it’s likely you will deal with some sort of stress at work. Dealing with this stress day after day, hour after hour, isn’t helping your health or letting you think as clearly, and this is affecting your success. Daily exercise allows you to take a break, sweat out the bad and start anew with a clear mind. Bonus tip: Listen to “Hakuna Matata” as you stretch post-workout.

Happier- Do you roll out of bed and dread going to work? Well consider exercising your new morning happy pill! Recommended Dosage: 30 minutes, once a day, 5 days a week. That’s a doctor’s note you don’t have to struggle to read. Exercising can boost your mood for hours, which will help dealing with angry customers (or bosses!) that much easier. In the words of Bob Marley, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy!”

Raises Confidence- Exercising helps you look better, which helps you feel better, which helps you do better. Walk into important presentations feeling like people are listening to what you say, not staring at the rolls that may have gotten a little bigger than you wanted over Christmas. There isn’t time for middle school awkwardness in the workplace. Having confidence will help you to work harder and present yourself better, which is a golden key to success.

Overall, we know that exercise can only benefit you, not only in your health but in your career. Be more successful than ever this year by exercising to relieve stress, be happier, and raise your confidence!

Was this year’s resolution to be a little less selfish and a little more giving? So you gave a bum a dollar, and you think you have done your good deed for the year. Well we know you can do more to help by doing something you already love: Running!

You know that awesome after-run endorphin filled feeling you get?  What if we told you that it can feel even better?

The Solution: Running for a cause.

Charities are always looking for donations. Whether it is a couple hours of your time, a few cans of food, or that over-sized coat you bought 4 years ago and have only worn once. These are all valuable to charities, but like any business, even more valuable is money. Charities need money to fund their projects from building schools to finding cures for cancer. That’s why running for a cause is one of the most charitable things you can do this year.

The Foam Fest 5K is not only about fitness and fun, but also philanthropy! We want to help those in need. That’s why a large part of our proceeds this year will be going to A Child’s Hope Foundation and other local charities. By running in Foam Fest, you are also helping build orphanages for children.

Most runs donate to charities, but if they don’t, pick a cause you are most passionate about and ask people to sponsor you. Ask family, friends, coworkers and even businesses to help you raise money by running. It’s a good way to make friends and be part of a greater good.

We hope that this year you choose to run not only for yourself, but for those in need by running for a cause. It’s sure to make your runner’s high even higher and change the world one step at a time!

 

Instagram Trends to Leave in 2013

The New Year means a new you, so shouldn’t your Instagram profile reflect your new persona?

2013 was a good year. You traveled somewhere tropical, you bought a new cute dress, you saw a beautiful sunset, and let’s guess, you probably Instagrammed each of these moments. Your friends absolutely needed to see your toes in the sand, the adorable bow on the back of your dress, and the sunset that faded an odd hue of orange. You probably even made a Flipgram of pictures from throughout the year on January 1st, 2014. But times are changing and your Instagram should too.

Selfie may have been the word of the year for 2013 and yes, even Obama is doing it, but it’s time to move on from the mirror pics and the duck lips on social media. Remember your profile represents your life. We don’t need to see that you got ready today again. There is one exception though, a selfie of you covered in foam running a 5K, because that’s more than a selfie, it’s a healthy.

If you baked a giant cake and decorated it like a burger, that’s awesome and we want to see it, if not, leave the McDonald’s menu to yourself.
